The new CRCT web site, which went 'live' in early June 2005, is a special project of CRCT Health Promotion Program. The web site attempts to meet the information needs of consumer/survivors, family members, service providers and others. It makes available information about mental health-related news, events, resources, and programs in a timely manner.
If you have any comments or suggestions for the web site, you may contact CRCT's Web Site Content Manager Glen Dewar using the email form accessed through the "feedback or corrections" link in the lower right corner of all pages on the CRCT web site.
With funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation CRCT is developing culturally & linguistically competent mental health information & materials. The aim of this project is to increase access to mental health information, resources, and services for newcomer communities by developing, testing, translating, and disseminating (via web-sites and printed materials) culturally competent mental health information. The information (available in different languages) will be included in a booklet for consumers and family members to help them cope with illness and access services and supports.
The project focuses in particular on 4 communities Afghan, Somali and Tamil, and 5 corresponding languages Dari & Pashtu, Somali, Tamil and Urdu.
We plan to develop a comprehensive, and culturally competent mental health booklet in 5 different languages. The information will be disseminated by way of community events in each of the identified communities, a launch event that will draw service providers in mental health and settlement agencies, and through ongoing distribution of the printed booklet. Access to the booklet will also be made available on CRCT’s website which will establish links to other relevant websites where newcomer communities may already access information and services.

The project is in partnership with the following agencies, Community Resources Connections of Toronto (CRCT), Canadian Mental Health Association-Toronto (CMHA), The Afghan Women's Counseling and Integration Community Support Organization, South Asian Women’s Centre, Polycultural Immigrant and Community Services.

CRCT's Health Promotion Program contributes the news portion of the Bulletin which is distributed to consumer/survivors, family members and service providers in Toronto and across the province. The "Newsbytes" are summaries of articles of interest appearing in major newspapers, press releases, and any other relevant information. "Newsbytes" is prepared by CRCT Information Consultant Glen Dewar. At present (June 2005) the Bulletin has approximately 1,200 subscribers, with many subscribers forwarding the email version and photocopying, distributing and/or posting it so that its effective readership is much larger.
The Bulletin is available at no charge, in both email and hardcopy formats (the latter distributed by Canada Post). To obtain a subscription, simply call the C/S Info Centre at 416-595-2882 or email it at csinfo@camh.net.
