Recently the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal ordered inquests into the deaths of two persons who were involuntary psychiatric patients in Toronto institutions when they died. This overruled the Coroner's Act, which allowed inquests into the deaths of persons in psychiatric facilities under involuntary detention to be up to the discretion of the coroner. However, now the Attorney General and Chief Coroner have filed a notice of appeal.
