Our mission and our first responsibility is to assist persons(aged 16 years or older) with severe mental health problems by working directly with them and indirectly through our community work with other groups and organizations. We will promote their right to self-determination, and assist them to acquire the skills, supports and services they feel are required in order to live a fulfilling life in the community.
The services we provide will be determined by the needs and preferences of the clients/consumers/survivors who will be significantly involved at the individual, organizational and board level.
We will respond in flexible and innovative ways to these needs and preferences by research, the development and evaluation of models of direct and indirect services which can be adapted by local communities or divested to local communities. Assessing client satisfaction will be a priority for our research and evaluation. We will disseminate knowledge through consultation, research, educational programs, participation in conferences and production of publications.
We will work collaboratively with consumer/survivor organizations, family members, service providers (institutional and community-based), local communities, coordinating bodies, educational institutions and government bodies. We will seek the broadest possible input and opportunities to engage in joint ventures in the delivery of direct service, consultation, research and education.
We will exercise leadership on behalf of consumers, family members and our community. We will advocate for services which emphasize individuality, choice, self-determination and participation, sensitivity to gender, ethnic, racial, cultural and other diversities, and for reasonable accommodation in all areas of society.
The following beliefs and values will guide our activities and relationships with consumer/survivors, family members, staff and board of CRCT and other organizations;
We will:
Respect honours the dignity of all people, which allows for honesty, fair treatment, being listened to and provided with choices; fostering a positive and healthy environment to work and grow together.
Freedom of choice. We believe in freedom of choice because it gives us the power of decision making for ourselves and to choose options and opportunities as we like.
Trust. We believe in trust because it is the foundation of a healthy relationship that grows from experiences of comfort, security, respect, dignity, self-worth, confidentiality, openness and communication.
Self-determination. We believe in self-determination because it provides everyone with opportunities to exercise their right to make choices and to take responsibility for them.
Consumer-driven. We believe in a consumer-driven organization because consumers are the users of the services and are the ones who are directly affected.
Collaboration. We believe in collaboration because by bringing people together we can achieve a better result than by separate efforts.
Providing opportunities. We believe in providing opportunities in order to enhance personal growth and autonomy and to provide enrichment for the community in which we live and work.
Justice/Fairness/Equality. We believe that being treated justly enhances a person’s sense of well-being, self-esteem and dignity.
